Maternity
To ensure you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and childbirth it is worth considering the following points:
- Check you have had a Rubella (German Measles) vaccination
- Keep up to date with your cervical smears. If you are trying for a baby, have a smear to avoid the need of having one during pregnancy
- Try and retain your ideal weight. This helps both during and after your pregnancy.
- Cut down on alcohol consumption, as this can affect your baby’s health
- If you smoke, try, for the baby’s sake, to stop during your pregnancy. It may be the opportunity to stop altogether!
- Eat sensibly and healthily but take certain precautions:
- Avoid soft, unpasteurised cheese; pate and cooked chilled foods
- A supplement of Vitamin B – Folic Acid – is good for your developing baby. Folic acid is also found in green leafy vegetables, fruit, nuts, wholemeal bread and rice
